The Neighbors for Chughtai Staff Unionizes with Campaign Workers Guild

Minneapolis, MN--The Neighbors for Chughtai campaign in Minneapolis announced today the unanimous ratification of a collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Campaign staff unionized with Campaign Workers Guild (CWG).

The Chughtai staff join a growing list of campaign workers, consulting firm workers, and political party staffers who are seeking to unionize nationwide. They are the first staff on a campaign in Minneapolis to organize as a union this year.

“The Neighbors for Chughtai campaign is built on advocating for worker’s rights and creating communities where workers can not only just live, but thrive”, said Raquel Sidie-Wagner, she/her Chughtai bargaining team member. “This is why it was important to us that the labor at the heart of this campaign was given the opportunity to negotiate for things like paid time off and rest breaks so that we can be whole, healthy people, modeling the world we’re trying to build.”

The contract guarantees specific provisions for paid canvassers including a tech stipend and gas reimbursement, overtime pay, and severance and reimbursements for all employees.

“I’m proud of this team of workers for reaching an agreement with the Campaign that is inclusive of their demands. These workers are key players in the shift we are seeing in the industry toward better working conditions for campaign workers everywhere. I’m thrilled to welcome these workers to the Campaign Workers Guild,” said Candice Crutcher, she/her CWG Bargaining Representative.

"When workers come together to collectively exercise their power in a workplace, everyone benefits, and is stronger for it. This is an excellent contract that protects workers. Congratulations to our unionized staff!"  Aisha Chughtai she/her
